Internet User Characteristics and BehaviorsNearly 63% of U.S. households own a computer, and nearly all of them have internet access. As sales of PCs continue to fall, the internet penetration is likely to slow unless another way to access the internet catches on. Similar to another consumer technology, the television, it took about 8 years to reach a 63% penetration rate of households who bought a TV. That's about the same amount of time it took the Internet to reach its current 57% household penetration since 1994. The product life cycle of the internet is very similar to the life cycle of the TV. It took 30 more years after 1955 to reach the 98% household TV penetration rate. Industry analysts predict it will be even more challenging for internet adoption rate to reach that level because learning how to use a PC and navigate is more challenging than changing channels. In this module you will learn about the internet user characteristics and behaviors and why it is important to understand how the diffusion process and adoption rates of the internet affects your business. |
